Ryan Gosling is said to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a member of the Fantastic Four.
Phase Five will begin next month with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, continuing the ongoing Multiverse Saga. While some existing properties are getting sequels, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is ready to revive Marvel’s founding family, the Fantastic Four.
After nearly two decades with Fox, Marvel Studios eventually reclaimed the Fantastic Four rights when Disney acquired 20th Century Studios.
While Reed Richards appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he was a Mister Fantastic version rather than the Earth-616 iteration. Fantastic Four will be part of the Phase Six schedule as they prepare for the upcoming blockbuster Avengers flicks.
At the time of publication, neither Marvel Studios nor anybody on Gosling’s team has responded to the rumors.
Everything We Know About the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Fantastic Four
Like other MCU films, Marvel Studios has kept details regarding the Fantastic Four revival under wraps.
The film was set to be directed by Spider-Man director Jon Watts before he dropped out. Matt Shakman of WandaVision was formally hire in 2022 to bring the Fantastic Four to life. Marvel Studios then hired Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer as writers for Fantastic Four.
The reboot’s executive producer, Kevin Feige, has stressed that while it will be a new take on the heroes, it will not be an origin narrative.
Given that Fox attempted to retell the origin narrative in 2015, it’s understandable why Marvel Studios would want to avoid doing it for future MCU installments. That means Reed, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm have been working together for a long time, wherever they are.
It’s unclear if they’ve been functioning as the Fantastic Four for a long time or are just getting start. Despite his appearance, John Krasinski is not slate to play Earth-616’s Reed.
Would Ryan Gosling Be Appropriate For The MCU?
Over the last few years, Gosling has frequently been mention in fan castings for various parts in the MCU. Given his star power, it’s debatable whether he’d a better fit as Mister Fantastic, Human Torch, or even The Thing.
Given that the Fantastic Four will be a big part of the MCU in the future, it makes sense for Marvel Studios to cast some big stars as these famous characters.
At the same time, they may execute a hybrid casting in which they cast some unknowns for two of the heroes while A-list names play the other two. Gosling, who has been envisione as the MCU’s Ghost Rider, would be a huge addition to the MCU if he were to join the Fantastic Four film.
