NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH Golden Shores

7.30.10 by Paul Maxwell, "In My Opinion..."

The week has passed very slowly or probably because of the heat, it just seems like it.

Well, very little crime has been reported to the watch. One report was a person, 19, passed out in a resident's yerd at a very late hour. MCSO was called and the person was removed and arrested. He was probably charges with treaspassing. "No further details." On Tuesday, two juveniles evidently decided to go for a spin in a pickup without the owner's permission. In the process, they got the vehicle stuck in the sand in a resident's driveway. When the resident and wife went outside to help them get the vehicle unstuck, they were met with verbal abuse, especially toward the wife. MCSO was notified and responded.

The homeowner was asked if he wanted the vehicle impounded and he said no. On inspection, the vehicle was found to not have current registration and no insurance. By the law, it was impounded. This crime was in the vicinity of Casa Grande and El Mirage in the upper unit.

I have been told that a burglary was committed in the vicinity of Yuma and Powell Lake Road. Stolen was a car trailer with single axle and centenniel tires. The wheels have been jury rigged and possibly has expired Texas license plate.

Also stolen was an auto a-frame and a motor rebuilding machine. Also taken was a microwave. Evidence at the scene suggests the crime was committed by a male and a female. Low-lifes come in both genders.

On Wednesday evening, there was a structure fire on Park in the lower unit. At the time of the fire, the Watch had four observation vehicles on patrol. They went to the vicinity of the fire to help block streets and keep looky-loos and help fire fighters. They have enough to think about keeping themselves safe without worrying about getting run over by some dummy driving by and watching everything but their driving.

During the week, I get several calls from residents who are going out of town for different lengths of time. But it seems one name is mentioned quite often. The name, Karen Gardener, is mentioned. I am told that Karen Gardener is the only one authorized to be on my property. She has a key to the residence. She has the phone number to reach us. She will be taking care of my animals, etc. To most of us, she is known as the Avon Lady, which is her primary business, but Karen has many hats. She is heavily involved with the Golden Shores Women's Club, especially the cookbook and rummage sale. She makes sacks with assorted Avon products for the contestants at the Kid's Fishing Derby. She still finds time to help her neighbors. People like Karen are what makes Golden Shores a nice place to live. Thanks Karen.

We have a lot of people who volunteer and donate their time and energy to make Golden Shores a nice place to live.

It seems monsoon season has missed Golden Shores so far. As usual, the rain cannot get under our dome, just the wind underneath it. In G.S. we measure rain by the distance between drops.

Well, until next week, keep cool and remember, to have good neighbors, you have to be a good neighbor.
