Funding for underage drinking enforcement
This past weekend deputies of the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office conducted special enforcement details throughout the county to combat the growing problem of underage consumption and possession of alcoholic beverages. The details included Covert Underage Buying (C.U.B.) and “party patrols” throughout the county.
On Friday deputies conducted C.U.B. operations that resulted in over 30 establishments being contacted and two being cited for selling liquor to a minor. On Saturday operations were conducted in Ehrenberg and Parker that resulted in the arrest of twenty subjects for underage consumption, one D.U.I. arrest and one juvenile who was cited and released to a responsible adult. The funding for these operations was through a grant received from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) – Combating Underage Drinking Program. The La Paz County Sheriff’s Office received the funding early in the year and have now gotten the approval through the GOHS and the La Paz County Board of Supervisors, by way of a resolution that was unanimously approved, to perform these activities within La Paz County. Funding is also being provided to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and the Kingman Police Department to provided similar enforcement programs within their respective jurisdictions. The enforcement efforts will continue for the next several weeks to get the message out that we can no longer tolerate this type of activity and that drinking alcoholic beverages under the legal drinking age is a crime and will be enforced to the full extent of the law. “We are trying to save lives and to do this we have to get the message to the youth of our communities to change their behavior that it is okay to drink alcohol without dealing with the consequences that may follow,” said Lt. Linc Gilbert, "We have lost too many young people over the past several years due to alcohol consumption.” Call or email us today and let GSX help your business to grow.
