Human smuggling, endangerment, 8 illegal immigrants arrested
Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 8 illegal immigrants early Thursday morning.
At about 1:00 a.m., deputies observed a Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the area of Harbor Avenue and Vacation Drive. As deputies approached the vehicle, they observed the tail end of the vehicle appeared to be lower than usual. The driver identified himself as Amado Lopez Diaz, 27, with a foreign identification card. Deputies observed four male subjects sitting in the back seat and a fifth male subject sitting in the front passenger seat. Investigations determined that they were traveling to Oxnard, California. Deputies opened the trunk of the vehicle and discovered two more male subjects inside the trunk. All subjects exited the vehicle. With the assistance of Border Patrol, they determined all 8 occupants to be illegal immigrants. All eight subjects were taken into custody without incident. They were transported to the Mohave County District II Substation where Border Patrol later took them into custody. A Border Patrol Agent advised that Amado Lopez Diaz would be charged federally with human smuggling and endangerment. The vehicle was released to Border Patrol for evidence.
