Female pilot dead after flying into power lines
A woman died after a plane she was flying crashed into an empty lot in north Phoenix Thursday morning.
Mike Fergus with the FAA Northwest Mountain Region said the plane was inbound to Deer Valley Airport when it crashed into a field one mile west of the airport at 8:37 a.m. A Phoenix fireman said the pilot, 24, was killed in the crash. A Phoenix policeman said the pilot was in a flight training program and had departed Deer Valley Airport for a lengthy training flight but was returning to the airport flying very low and hit power lines.
