1/18 Bullhead City - New medical director, staff physician at River Cities

Dr. Kenneth Stephan has been named medical director of the River Cities Community Clinic. He will oversee a staff of medical practitioners at western Mohave County’s first non-profit medical facility designed to provide comprehensive primary care services to the entire community.

“It’s great to be back in Arizona,” said Dr. Stephan. “I’m a big believer in the role community health centers play. As River Cities Community Clinic continues to expand I’m looking forward to doing my part to help make Bullhead City and the Tri-State area even healthier places to live and work.”

A 1991 graduate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, he also holds an undergraduate degree from San Diego State University. He previously spent five years in Arizona practicing medicine in Casa Grande, Douglas and Surprise. He is fluent in Spanish.

River Cities Community Clinic accepts all patients, including those with private insurance, public insurance (Medicare and Medicaid/AHCCCS) and self-pays. It has the support of both local hospitals, Valley View Medical Center and Western Arizona Regional Medical Center, and many local physicians, since the community clinic is designed to move people who use an emergency room for basic medical services back to a physician’s office. Many of its patients have little or no insurance.

“Dr. Stephan is dedicated to the mission of a community clinic and a community health center,” said Jennifer Genua-McDaniel, the RCCC executive director. “We appreciate the work of the physicians and nurse practitioners who have helped us during our start-up phase. Now Dr. Stephan will be able to help lead our clinical staff to the next level as River Cities Community Clinic provides additional services and moves to become a full-fledged federally-sanctioned community health center serving Bullhead City and the surrounding area.”

The River Cities Community Clinic has received its principal start-up and operational funds from the BHHS Legacy Foundation, which has provided more than $848,000 in grants. The Harrah’s Foundation has contributed more than $81,000. More than $200,000 in federal, local, private and in-kind grants has helped the clinic move from a concept 7 years ago to opening in 2008.
