Mother starts fire in home with son, 6, inside
A boy, 6, was rescued from a blaze Wednesday afternoon after his mother apparently set their Las Vegas kitchen on fire with the intent to harm herself and her son, fire officials said.
A neighbor said he was home for lunch when he heard a fire alarm. He said he was unsure if there was an actual fire until he saw a door to the apartment open. Then he saw smoke coming out through the top of the door. The woman was trying to shut the door again. So he pushed the door through, grabbed the mother and the son and pulled them out. The mother who set the fire kept trying to go back inside the apartment. Neighbors said they believed the mother was "unstable" and that Child Protective Services had visited her in the past. Police confirmed the woman has some type of mental illness. Police said they were investigating to find out if the woman was on any medication for her illness and if she had even been properly diagnosed. Metro police said the fire was deliberately set. She put a blanket on the stove, turned the stove on, and the whole kitchen was engulfed in flames. It was obvious that the woman did not want to be saved. In the afternoon, the woman’s son, 13, and husband arrived home. The teenager was placed with CPS. The woman's younger son, 6, was transported to UMC and treated for minor smoke inhalation, then released to CPS. The mother was taken to the UMC Burn Unit with third-degree burns and will be undergoing a psychological examination. After the mother is treated, police said she will likely be charged with arson and attempted murder. Call or email us today and let GSX help your business to grow.
